Individual Therapy

What can I expect in Individual Therapy?

I provide a welcoming and comfortable place for you to come for therapy. You will find me to be a warm and compassionate listener with a sense of humor. I am skillful at helping you to determine what you want, and how we can collaborate to meet your goals in therapy.

The first session involves getting to know each other. I will want to hear how you decided to seek therapy. If you are in distress, we will spend some time using techniques to help you feel better, and I will give you some coping strategies to use between sessions. In the first few sessions, your short term and long term goals will take shape, and we will begin making progress on your priorities.

Your experience in therapy will be as unique as you are. My clients are often surprised by how much better they feel after a few sessions. I love to see people begin to make connections and understand their thought and behavioral patterns in a new way. This inevitably coincides with understanding themselves in relationship to others and navigating difficulties with new success.

When earlier experiences in life come up, there is the opportunity to befriend the younger self. I often see my clients become much more peaceful and confident as a result of this work. As old patterns and emotions are released, I see my clients become much more powerful and creative in the way they live their lives.

As work in therapy progresses, my clients have reported fewer symptoms of depression and anxiety, more confidence in navigating socially and at work, a greater appreciation and more enjoyment of their families, new avenues opening up for them, and generally feeling more content and satisfied in their lives.

It is my honor and privilege to be a part of your journey. I look forward to meeting you!

“Working with Rita, I am doing better as far as anxiety and depression are concerned. I continue to practice the imagery and other techniques I learned for letting go. I feel like I have learned how to recognize the “red flags” and how to respond in a way that is healthy for me. The bottom line is that I am grateful that I was led to Rita. She is a beautiful reflection of God’s love and grace.”
